RIHANNA BIOGRAPHY
Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988 in St. Michael, Barbados. She is a Bajan and Guyanese R&B singer with musical influences from Reggae, Pop and Dancehall. Rihanna became claimed to fame after releasing hits such as "Pon de Replay", "If It's Lovin' That You Want", "SOS", "Unfaithful", and "Break It Off".
She was born to a Barbadian Father and an Indo-Guyanese Mother. Rihanna has two younger brothers, Rorrey and Rajad. She attended Charles F. Broome Memorial School and then the Combermere School.
In 2004 she won the Miss Combermere Beauty Pageant and performed in the Colours of Combermere School Show, singing Mariah Carey's "Hero". When Rihanna was 15, she received her big break when one of her friends introduced her to music producer Evan Rogers. Rogers and his partner Carl Sturken helped Rihanna record material in the US which was sent to various recording companies. One of those copies was sent to Jay-Z, who decided to sign her to Def Jam Records.
In August 2005, her debut album, Music Of The Sun, was released. The first single released from the album was the track "Pon De Replay". It peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart as well as on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "If It's Lovin' That You Want", was less successful. The album received platinum certifications in several countries, and received a Gold certification in the US by the RIAA. Over 500,000 units were sold in the US and over 2 million worldwide. Her second album, "A Girl Like Me" was released so soon after "Music Of the Sun".
